Mille Lacs County Jail Roster
The official current-custody roster is the Mille Lacs County Inmate Locator. The county site links to it as the in-custody reports tool, and the public portal is free to use without a login. It is built around search tools, a search-results grid, and an inmate-details pane. Sheriff Kyle A. Burton's office operates the jail, and the roster is the local starting point for adult male and female pretrial detainees and sentenced county inmates held at Mille Lacs County Jail.
The public locator does not publish a refresh schedule or a release-retention period in the visible source reviewed for the research file. Treat the roster as a current-custody tool, not as a complete archive of older bookings. When a Mille Lacs County inmate record does not appear online, the next steps are the jail phone line, the east-side jail lobby, the county data-request process, or another custody system such as MNDOC, BOP, ICE, or Minnesota VINE.
The official locator screenshot from the Mille Lacs County Inmate Locator shows the roster interface used for current jail custody searches.
The search fields and detail panels in that image match the field inventory used below for Mille Lacs County inmate records.
Use the Mille Lacs County Roster
Start with broad search terms. The Mille Lacs County roster allows last name, first name, gender, and birth year, but the research file found no visible required marker for the name fields. If the spelling is uncertain, use fewer fields. Leave gender set to Unknown when the goal is to avoid filtering out a match by mistake.
- Open the official Mille Lacs County Inmate Locator and review the Search Tools panel.
- Enter a last name or first name. Add a four-digit birth year only when it is known.
- Use the Gender dropdown only as a filter. Unknown, Male, and Female are the visible options.
- Press Search, then select a result row to load the inmate-details pane.
- Review the image link, booking data, charge grid, hold grid, court date, bail field, and visitor-information field.
- If the search fails, clear the form and search by fewer terms before moving to phone or records-request channels.
The locator disclaimer matters. It says the Sheriff's Office cannot guarantee accuracy, says the information should not be relied on for legal action, and states that booking does not prove guilt or conviction. It also warns that Minnesota law may limit discrimination based on arrest or conviction record.
Mille Lacs County Roster Fields
The Mille Lacs County inmate search form is narrower than many jail systems. It does not expose a booking-number search on the visible public form. It also does not show a facility dropdown because the facility map for this site resolves to one local detention facility, Mille Lacs County Jail in Milaca.

Phone and in-person channels are part of the access chain because the online roster does not promise a refresh rate. The jail directory lists booking, reception, jail, and lobby information at the same Milaca campus. The Sheriff's Office west-side lobby is open during business hours, while the jail has a 24-hour lobby entrance on the east side of the building.

Mille Lacs County vs DOC Records
The county roster, the state prison locator, and federal or immigration systems answer different questions. The Mille Lacs County roster is for local jail custody. The MNDOC Locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner of Corrections and still under DOC jurisdiction. Federal sentenced inmates use the BOP Inmate Locator. Immigration custody uses ICE ODLS.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| County jail | Mille Lacs County Inmate Locator | Adult pretrial detainees and sentenced county inmates at Mille Lacs County Jail. |
| State prison or supervision | Minnesota Department of Corrections Locator | Adults committed to MNDOC, in prison or released under DOC supervision. |
| Federal sentenced custody | Federal Bureau of Prisons locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present, with release dates that may change. |
| Federal pretrial custody | U.S. Marshals District of Minnesota | Federal defendants may be in contract housing and may not appear in BOP before sentencing. |
| Immigration custody | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | Search by A-Number and country of birth or biographical information. |
| Custody notification | Minnesota VINE or Minnesota Haven | Notification tools that complement jail and DOC searches. |
No official Mille Lacs County Sheriff or police app was found in the research pass. Do not use a similarly named app for another city or state as a substitute for the county roster.
Mille Lacs County Booking Records
The county does not publish a full public booking manual, but the official pages identify the key local steps. Jail services include booking inmates, fingerprinting, and housing inmates. The intake area can hold five more people beyond the two housing units. A newly admitted inmate is allowed a local or collect long-distance phone call to a family member or significant other during admission.
A practical Mille Lacs County booking flow starts when the arresting agency brings the person to the jail or booking area. Jail staff identify the person, accept custody, inventory property, complete booking, fingerprinting, and photo steps, screen for housing and medical issues, then place the person in intake or a housing unit. The public roster may then show custody date, booking status, charges, court date, holds, bail, cell location, and an image link.
First appearance is a key timing point. The county Inmate Information page says an inmate is seen at 11 a.m. for first court appearance, with court held Monday through Friday except county-recognized holidays. Bail is set at that appearance. Weekend or holiday arrests may wait until the next court day for the next normal setting.
Note: A jail charge is an allegation tied to booking and may differ from the charge filed later in court.

Mille Lacs County Inmate Contact
Phone calls and eMessaging are through Securus Technologies. Nonprofessional calls after admission are fee-based, recorded, and limited to 20 minutes. Attorney calls are free. Housing-unit phones cannot make three-way calls or toll-free calls. Incoming calls are not forwarded except for verifiable emergencies or legal counsel messages.
Mail must go through USPS and may not be brought to the jail. Address mail to Mille Lacs County Jail, inmate name, 640 3rd Street SE, Milaca, MN 56353. Nonprofessional letters are scanned to the inmate's account, and originals are placed in the inmate's personal belongings. Photos must be appropriate, Polaroids are not allowed, and books or magazines may not be mailed because inmates use the jail library.
Mille Lacs County Inmate Funds
Money can be mailed to the jail as cash or money order. Deposits can also be made through TW Vending kiosks in the Sheriff's Office lobby or the jail 24-hour lobby, and both kiosks accept cash or credit card. Online deposits are through Inmate Canteen. The research file did not identify a county-published deposit fee schedule or deposit limit, so those details should be confirmed through the vendor or the jail before money is sent.
Note: Confirm current custody with the jail before sending money, scheduling a visit, or relying on a roster profile for release planning.
Mille Lacs County Records Requests
Older jail data, booking photos not visible online, or records that need a copy request should go through the county's Data Requests process and Public Data Request form. Mille Lacs County tells requesters to ask the department that maintains the data. Requests may be made by phone or by mail, fax, or email using the form.
A request should say it is made under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13, identify whether inspection or copies are requested, and describe the data clearly. Public inspection is free. Copies may cost money, and the county requires prepayment if the fee is more than $5. Active investigative data, juvenile data, confidential victim or witness data, and sealed or expunged records may be withheld or redacted.
